Love in Action: Sharing Protests and Prayers for These Times

Filed Under: Contemplative Practices, Emotional Literacies, Everyday Feminism, Racial Justice By Beth Godbee February 5, 2025 Leave a Comment

This Valentine’s Day, let’s come together and share some of the protests and prayers we are writing for these times.

A graphic with a stack of letters tied in a red bow on the top, with a black and white image of people holding picket signs below it. The text reads, "Love in Action, Sharing Prayers and Protests for These Times." The sub-text reads, "Friday, February 14, Valentine's Day, 2pm ET, 11 am PT. Bring your most fiery ideas, imaginative possibilities, recent writing, yet-unspoken longings, and deepest dedications. Register Now: Heart-Head-Hands.com"

We’re in times when what we love—people, the earth, and justice itself—are attacked with great force. The first weeks of the new administration have brought intense cruelty and terrorizing assertions of dominance. We respond in many ways, including with efforts to block harm, to build liberatory futures, and to be present with and for each other.

In these times, we need ever-more care, commitment, and connection. We also need to keep adding kindling to our internal fires and sparks to our creative imaginations.

So, let’s lean into bell hooks’ teaching that love is a verb. This love is a verb so powerful that it counters and crowds out all that tears us and those we love down. It affirms again and again commitments to justice—social justice, racial justice, gender justice, disability justice, economic justice, health justice, reproductive justice, environmental justice.

We’ll gather for an hour via Zoom and share some of the ways we’ve been writing, speaking, and acting UP. Together, we’ll answer the questions: How are we showing up? What are we creating? I’m imagining that we’ll lean into a show-and-tell format, channeling the playful energy of childhood shares when there’s mutual excitement in the sharing itself.

There is no cost. Instead, bring your most fiery ideas, imaginative possibilities, recent writing, yet-unspoken longings, and deepest dedications.

If you’d like to say thanks for the workshop, consider (1) donating what you’d pay for a workshop to a local mutual aid organization and (2) becoming a subscriber of Heart-Head-Hands: Everyday Living for Justice.
